THE TWO STROKE REVOLUTION

THE TWO STROKE REVOLUTION

from £550.00

The Two Stroke Revolution is from the 2024 Milestones collection which, unlike the rest of the series was shot not on the Isle of Man TT course but across dozens of locations of historical significance to the TT. In this collection, riders, manufacturers and engineers all play a part in a plot culminating on that sacred stretch of 37 and three quarter miles of road: the Isle of Man TT course. These images offer a glimpse into the story behind the story.

The story:

The two stroke revolution reached far beyond camp Suzuki. Yamaha too embraced the punchy power of the two stroke engine, especially with its over-the-counter racer, the TZ.  Refined, understated, agile and slim-line, the TZ was - in its 70s heyday - the ultimate ambassador of Japanese race engineering. So it’s no surprise that the TZ dominated the TT grid in the late 1960s and early 1970s. The late eight-times TT winner Phil Read, projected here on an old TT cinefilm, said: “The TZ 250 and 350 Yamahas were the beginning of the end for four strokes. They enabled private riders to be competitive, challenging the factory bikes to give impressive performances, even in GPs.” Indeed, this shot shows Read on his way to finishing second in the 1967 250cc Lightweight TT.
